My first film poster example (arts award challenge)

This is my first film poster example on what I'll be doing in my arts award challenge

This what my film poster is going to be based on and what different types of effects and tools I could use to make the film poster better to look at.

My Arts Award Challenge

How I produced my Arts Award Challenge:

This is my finished poster on what my poster will look like. This is just an example of the film poster. In this image there is 4 images in the film poster.

This is an image of jets that I got from google images. In this image I used the rubber tool to rub out the background and just have the main image which is the planes. I also used the wand tool to rub out the background is well.

In this image I have added another image which is an image of british soldiers in the bottom left corner. I saved the image into my folder and then open the image into photoshop and then I used the wand tool to get rid most of the background, then I used the rubber to finish off the little bit of the background so it's just the image by it's self.

In this image, I have added an image of Tony Stark. In this poster he will be the main character and the main image in the film poster.
This image here will be my background image for my film poster. I haven't change anything in the background, but I am hoping to learn more stuff about photoshop and knowing how to use all the tools and how I can make the image and poster better.

Show work at different stages

  • Collect images from the internet.
  • Add the images onto adobe Photoshop.
  • Remove the background from the images.
  • Add the background into adobe premier.
  • Add the images infront of the background.
  • Change the effects of the images in the poster.
  • Save the work into a folder.
  • Export the image as JPG, PNG and TIFF.

What I thought about feedback from other people on my work.

Evaluation

What I have produced is that I have analysed what effects i'll be using in the film poster, what images and what colours I'll be using in my poster. In the comments people have been saying that the arts award challenge is good but they wanted to see more detail about how my film poster is going to be planned and what is going to be used in my film poster. I thought I got good feedback from a person which was Kieren Dixion saying that is a good film poster, but i was a shamed that other people didn't comment on my film poster which I sent the link to everyone on facebook saying comment on my film poster, but I thought one comment is good enough.

Arts award review

In my arts review today I went to cineworld and took pictures of all the work that the creative media students that have been doing for a year. It shows all the levels 1,2 and 3 work they been producing. This trip is alot like the the trip at the BBC Newcastle by taking pictures of the equipment and the work they do at the BBC Newcastle studio. I wasn't aloud to take pictures in the screens area as it is the rules not take pictures in the screens area. Here is my first image of a persons work that I took a picture of.

Images
This image here, is a picture of the outside building of cineworld. I took a picture of this because it is to show where I went for my final year presentation, to show all the work I did on level 2 creative media. I enjoyed at cineworld because there alot of people who attended and wanted to see there work that they produced this year.
This image here is a picture of all the levels that do creative media. There are three level. There is level 1, level 2 and level 3. I enjoyed the film presentation as it showed all the progress we did and how we developed our skills.
This is another image of the creative media classes at cineworld in middlesbrough. This is a photo at the end of the presentation video. Not all of the people's work was shown in cineworld, only a few people's work was shown because there work was better than other people's work. I thought the film was too long and people were getting tired after watching the film presentation for 2 hours.
In this picture here is a picture of the snacks that were given to us from our creative media teachers. We were given sweets, juice and popcorn for us to have during the film presentation. My opinion about this snack bag was a kind and a good idea because it help us to have food and have a drink just incase we got hungry and thirsty during the film presentation.

Dear Jordy Holtslag

My name is Angus Mackintosh and I'm 17 years old and I'm 18 in November the 1st. I have come to write this letter to you to know what you do at the media organisation. At the moment I'm studying creative media level 2 at Middlesbrough college, I'm a rugby player for the college and i'm a rower at rowing tees club. In my silver arts award i'm working on film poster and i'm doing this project with my friends who are Josh Smith, Aaron Stringer and Sadiq Arshad. What my film poster is a war poster about the modern war and the title is called World War. I did have experience at being an editor as I have done filming and done editing for it.

All I want to know is what is it like working in the editor? The reason that I ask of this is because I want to know what it would be like to work there and how much the job will offer me and wanting to know is it something that I might enjoy as career.

I would like to know how many hours do you have to work to do this job and what does this job expect from me. Do they want me to do a project to show them the stuff that I have done for my silver arts award or would they like me to do a video project which is something that I am in to.

What are the qualifications that I need to be an editor, camera man, photographer or a graphic designer. Would I need C's and above or do I need just creative media skills? How do I need to begin to find work in that sort of area of the organisation? What experience do I need do I need something from college or school to show the work that I have produce?Would they offer me a contract? Would they offer me a job but only get called in for the job?

What time do you start work? which days do you work? what type of work do they expect from me?

If you could get back to me asap then I would be greatful.

Yours sincerely Angus Mackintosh

I have written this message to Jordy Holtslag to ask him what it is like to work in the media industries as an editor and what grades you need to become an editor, how many hours would you work as editor and how much would you be paid. I written this message to him because he is the one who has explained everything about being an editor.

Silver arts award pathways

How do you begin finding work in your chosen area?
The type of job that I want is to become an cameraman in TV shows and films. The companies that I want to work for to become a cameraman are:
  • yarm studious
  • BBC look north
  • itv look north
I want to become a cameraman because I find the job easy for me to deal with and it is something that I can keep in time and being patient about stuff is well.

Here are some examples of websites where the cameraman jobs are provided:
http://www.yarmstudio.co.uk/

what education and qualifications do you need?

The type of qualifications that you need to become a cameraman are:
  • City and guilds diploma in media techniques in levels 1, 2 and 3 award certificate.
  • BTEC national certificate or diploma in media production.
  • BTEC HNC/HND in media (moving image)
  • Degrees in media production, media technology or photography
What other qualities as a person would you need to succeed in this area?

The qaulities that I will need to succeed to become a camera man are:

  • Passion for film and photography

  • Normal colour vision
  • Excellent technical knowledge of camera equipment
  • Strong IT skills
  • Good visualisation skills
  • Excellent observation and recording skills
  • Quick decision-making
  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Good level of fitness
  • Ability to handle heavy and delicate equipment
  • These are the type of skills that I will need to become a camera man for films, TV shows and the BBC news.

What kind of careers, pathways and oppurtunities are available in this area of media?

From becoming a cameraman you will becoming a normal camera man working for the BBC news or maybe even working in a studio, and you will be working your way up to becoming a professional, getting paid more and more involved with companies that want camera man.
As you start to make your way up you might even become a senior camera man and will start to get into more projects and films and maybe even get paid more, as you get promoted you will be getting more work and money. The highest promotion you can get is a camera director which is the highest, as that job you will be in charge of other people and controlling the cameras and the planning of the cameras.

What do I want to know?
What I want to know about is how I can become a film editor for film companies and how I can get involved with big films that are very well known to other people and other countries. I want to know what it is like to be an editor for people you work for. The reason that I want to be an editor is because they pay you good money, you get to work with famous people that you have never meet and also the techniques that you will be doing as an editor. When the editors did the editing shower scene from the film psycho was amazing how they did the music and made that scene very scary. When the editors did the editing for the film Lord of the rings the two towers scene at helms deep was amazing when the wall was destroyed by the orks and the battle scene.

    Who is Jordan Holtslag?
Jordan Holtslag is a film and video editor. What he does is that he edits video by making the film or video shorter or longer. He adds audio effects and visual effects to the video or film. He cuts bits out of the video and adds in new stuff or he doesn't like it and cuts it out. I found him on stage 32. what stage 32 is to contact media people who involved with film productions, newspaper articles, BBC news and radio. These people are not just from the UK but from all over the world who are involved with media. Stage 32 is to help media student to contact them and to find out what they do and how we can get involved with stuff that they do.

What I like about this image is that it has a clear view of the image on what's happening in it. The focusing of the camera is very good. The image quality is very high definitive and has bright and alot of colours in the image. I like this image because it's something that I want to do by taking pictures of views with good image quality and has high image colouring.

What I like about this image is because, it shows the technique and the skill to do film editing on adobe premier. This is the sort of stuff that I want to do for film editing by knowing the skills and having the technique in adobe premier. To make my own film.

Here is a link of a youtube clip of the film editors technique. What technique they used for editing and this is the sort of film editing I want to do. the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LXQg6t4q2A

    What is my project?
What my project is a film poster about war. In this project I will be working in a group with four people, and there will be two different pairs where one will be against war and the other one is for war. In this project i'll be adding war images in the film poster and i am going to be against war, so i'll be showing why war is bad and adding texts why war is a terrible thing. The people who are in my group are Josh Smith, Aaron Stringer and Sadiq Arshad. Josh and Aaron will be for war and Sadiq will be against war.

    Brainstorm
I had a brainstorm that I was going to create a film poster, but this film poster is going to be about war, that I will need to include war images. Then I had a brainstorm that I might get in a group of four where all four of us can do one film poster each.

    Keeping referring to others
I have mentioned the people in my group in my leadership to make sure that the examiner knows there names and knowing what there roles are in the silver arts award.

    Team work (no duplicating images)
We have not been duplicating our images through blogger and our images are very creative and have great image quality to make the images very unique in our poster's.

    Producing work
My group has produced amazing film posters for their silver arts award and that they have used amazing skills on photoshop and using different skills instead of doing the same technique all over again.

Feedback from team people and tutor
The feedback that we received were good, there weren't any bad reviews saying that the images are terrible or the quality is terrible, we've had positive reviews about our poster's and also helpful feedback from out tutor saying the image quality is good and the design of the poster is good.

    Finished product
We have been working hard to produce a film poster, by designing the posters and using our skills on photoshop by changing the effects of the image. Once we finished our poster's I then created a page on padlet so me and my group can upload our poster's on padlet and then sending the link to everyone in our class and letting the people comment on what's there favourite thing about the film poster.

Review of how well carrying out leadership
I thought that I did my best in this silver arts award but I did struggle with a few stuff that I needed help with, but I thought the work was easy when I was producing the film poster, I mostly struggled with all the writing about the planning and knowing what needs to be included in the writing. But hopefully that I have passed my silver arts award and then I am willing to take on harder and more challenging work.

What do the others need to do for their leadership to meet their part of the project?
What the others need to do is use their own images for their own film poster and what we have done in this group is that we have done for war and against war and we have split the group into a pair so Josh and Aaron are doing for war and Sadiq and I are doing against war. What they need to do is add text in the poster saying war is bad or war can help or images showing war is bad or war is good.

    What is my role?
My role in this project is to create a film poster, create a padlet page for the posters to be uploaded on padlet and to tell people what images need to be included into the film poster and what the  name of the film poster is called and add different text into the film poster.

    What is my leadership?
My skills are being developed by doing image editing. In image editing I have developed my skills by changing the effects of the image for example making the image more silhouette and stretching the images and making the images smaller and bigger and making the poster darker as the film poster is a war poster.

    Time management
I kept in good time with the project as I had more time to spare as I had completed my other work from the other lessons and had more time to explain and show how I did my work and what my project is.

    Working under pressure
I will have to plan myself as I will need to know what stuff I need for my project and how to set my project out. I f I am able to do this then I will be able to do more challenging projects and more difficult tasks and will be able to be more on top with the projects and have more control of the tasks.

    Be flexible
I'll be able to be more flexible to be able to do more work and keeping myself busy and also helping my team to get there work done in time and keeping on top of there work so they are not falling behind.

    Identified leadership
My identified leadership is that this film poster was my idea and I will be doing this with my friends who are Josh Smith and Aaron Stringer and Sadiq Arshad. My friends are making 1 poster for each other and I'll be making one poster is well for my silver arts award. I am in charge of producing a poster that could be used as a film poster - but my focus will be making the poster with an anti war slant. I will ask for images from other people in the group when required.

List of stuff in the silver arts award poster
What I have told my friends is what the stuff needs to be included in my silver arts award poster. The stuff that I said that needs to be in this film poster is army images e.g. tanks, jets, guns etc. I even told them what the title is going to be. The title is going to be called 'World War' and I said to my friends that I'm going to have a main character in this film and the main character is going to be Tony stark and he is going to be in every single four poster that me and my friends are going to create.

    Targeted audience
The targeted audience that this poster is going to aim at is elders who have been in wars and also teenagers. The reason for this is because the elders who have thought in war are to notice that war isn't a good thing and the teenagers is because they are addicted this stuff from games and history stories. The teenagers would want to know that war isn't really a good thing to do.

Editing that will be done in photoshop
The editing that will be done in photoshop to do this film poster are:

    • To remove the background and just have the main image.
    • Change the effects of the image. For example different colours and changing the format of the image.
    • Adding other images to the poster.
    • Adding text into the film poster. So that the audience can see what the name of the film is called and add extra text to the film poster to make it sound good.
    Example of war posters

    Action planning
To make this poster that I am producing is to have war images and titles that say about war. The type of war images that the examiner would want to see is images of soldiers, tanks, guns etc. The people who are in my group will be doing the same project but using different images, instead of copying off other people's work.

This poster will be shared on Facebook and padlet. I'm sending the link to people so they can comment on my work on how well i am doing and what is so good about my work and what could be improved.

    Resources
The resources that I will need are an apple mac computer, access to google images and also a pc computer. I'll be using the PC computer to find images for my poster and the apple mac computer to do the editing on photoshop.

    Software and hardware
I'll be using photoshop which is my software and the editing will be done on the apple mac computer's. For my hardware I'll be using a PC to find my images and also my editing is well if the PC has photoshop on it.

    Assets and filemangement
To find away to keep in contact with each other, we will be creating a gmail account to send our work to other people in our group e.g. images, links and information from our work to help people in our group.

    Planning
To make this project happen I will need to get some images of war for my film poster. To share it with other people I will need to show to my friends and family by showing it in person or putting it on Facebook an getting advice from people on what they think about my film poster.

I will show my work by posting the the film poster on Facebook and Instagram and get feedback's and how many likes I get from it. I will also put posters in creative media department and also show my teachers is well.

Stage 1: I will collect images from google images and save the images into my files.
Stage 2:Add the images onto adobe Photoshop.
Stage 3:Rub out the background of the image that you are going to use for your poster.
stage 4: Then add the images into your poster and do what ever you want that will be good for your film poster.

The only resources that I will need are a:
    • Computer
    • Google images
The hardware and the software that I will be using are adobe Photoshop and a PC for my film poster. I'm going to use adobe Photoshop because I can edit my film poster which has images and adobe Photoshop edits images.

    Assets and file Management
We are going to create a google acount so we can contact each other by showing our film poster's and our bloggers on what we have written for our planning and how we have designed our images on Photoshop.

    War Poster: For and against

This is my silver arts award leadership chart to inform the teacher on who is doing what on their silver arts award and what they are designing in their film poster and knowing the person's name doing the poster.

    Designing film poster

    Image 1
Here is my first image of the film poster. I got this image from Sadiq. He got it off google images by typing in silhouettes soldiers. What I have done to this image is that I have stretched the image to the end of the poster so that the image fits the poster.

How are my leadership skills developing?
My leadership skills are getting better as I am starting to use different variety of images and making the images bigger.

    Image 2
Here is my second image of my film poster. This was supplied to me by Aaron - who also got the image from a search on google images. What I have added in this image is soldier in left hand corner kneeling down. This is another silhouette image. What I have done to this image is that I rubbed out the background so it's just a plain background and I went onto filter graphics to change the image differently by changing it into a hand drawn image.

How are my leadership skills developing?
My leadership skills are getting better as I am adding other images to the poster and changing the effects of the image.

    Image 3
In this image I have added the image of Tony Stark in the background of my film poster. What I have done to this image is that I have changed the colour of the image by going on filter effects and changing the image into a sketch drawing image. To make the image fade I changed the opacity by moving it down to a low number to make the image fade away.

How are my leadership skills developing?
My leadership skills are getting better as I am making images bigger and fitting the image in the background of the poster.

    Image 4
In this image I have added text to the film poster. The text says 'save our world'. The type of style the text has been written in is a type of army hand writing style.

How are my leadership skills developing?
My leadership skills are being developed as I starting to add text to the poster, to give the audience more information and understanding what the poster is.

    Image 5
In this image I have added another text into my film poster. The text says 'protect our planet'. I have written the text the same as the the other type of text written in the same type of format.

How are my leadership skills developing?
My skills are being developed as I am learning to use new techniques on photoshop by changing the effects of the image e.g. adding texts, making the images more hand sketching and making the colour of the images darker.

    Working as a team
I worked very well with my team as we didn't fall out with each other and didn't get into any arguments. We worked well together as I was telling them what needs to be included into the film poster and how it needs to be done. We worked well together as they spoke to me saying is this okay for the poster and i'll decide if it is good or not, but most of the time I said the poster works very well and it fits with the plan that I created.

    In charge
The stuff that I was specifically in charge of was:

    • Creating a page on photoshop and adding the page onto padlet for me and my team mates to add their film poster's on.
    • I was in charge of sending the link of padlet to my team, so they can add their film posters.
    • I was in charge of sending the link on facebook to everyone else to comment on mine and my team's film posters. On how good, bad and what needs to be improved.

    Review
In this silver arts award me and my group created a film poster about world war and designing their own poster, with their own images and doing the image editing their own way instead of doing the editing the same way which won't show how we improved our selves or how we challenged our selves.

    Strengths
The strengths that I had during this silver arts award was planning on what my poster was going to look like and planning on what stuff I will need for my poster e.g. I will need an apple mac computer with adobe photo shop to edit my film poster. My other strengths were that I knew some of the tools on photo shop and I knew how to edit the images and add them to my film poster. The other strength was i was working well with my group and we were coming into college everyday to get the silver arts award done.

    Weaknesses
The weaknesses that I had during this silver arts award was that I didn't know all the tools on adobe photo shop and I didn't know what those tools would do to the image and I didn't know where all the editing effects where on adobe photoshop and I didn't know what the effects will change in the film poster. The other weaknesses were that people were getting too distracted with YouTube by just videos and not getting the work done.

    Improvements
The improvements that could have been made are:

    • Need to tell the group to know what they are doing.
    • Need to tell the group what needs to be included in their film poster.
    • Need to learn what the tools and the effects do on adobe Photoshop.
    Getting feedback
I'll be getting feedback from people on padlet. To get everyone to do feedback for my film poster, I will need too send the link to everyone on Facebook so they can access padlet and comment on my film poster to say what they like about and could of been better and needs improving.

    What is padlet?
What padlet is, is a a software and hardware, where you upload posters, images, mind map, mood board etc. On padlet you upload your work to padlet and people have a chance to comment on your work to say if it needs improving, to say if it is good or to say it's not very good. Really padlet is for commenting on peoples work.
http://padlet.com/angusjoesphmack/365m1da51ffy  This is my reviews on my film poster that I have sent to people yo comment on by sending the link on Facebook. I created the review page on Photoshop and uploading the review page on padlet so people are able to add comments to the poster to say what's good, bad and what needs to be improved. Here is an example of the review page that I created and sent it to other people in my class room to comment on the posters that my group did for our silver arts award.
As you can see in this image there has been comments of people commenting on my groups posters and saying whats good and bad and what needs to be improved, but as you can see people have been saying positive stuff about our film posters.

This proof that I have sent the link to people in my class room. As you can see in bottom right you can see a message me sending the link to one of the creative media students.

People who commented on my poster:
The people who commented on my film poster are Courtney Fleming, Ryan Atterson, Liam Jamison Mathias and Liam Laverick. The comments they were saying were that my poster was good and using different effects to the film poster, which made the film poster very good.

How are my skills been developing?
My skills have been developed because now, I know how to put one picture over the other picture when the picture in the background is fading away. I know how to change the filter gallery by turning the images into drawing art fashion way, I can change the images into a silhouette image, I can change the background with a sketch drawing background. As i'm developing new skills, the better my images get, the better knowing what tools to use and knowing how to change the images in a different way.

    Review
This has been developing my skills in the arts award leadership by creating a page for padlet. Uploading my film poster to Facebook and padlet and also sending the link to everyone who is in my class by saying whats there favourite thing about mine and my groups film poster's and also saying what could of been better and what some stuff they don't like about.

    Effective leadership
The people who were in my group were Aaron stringer, Josh Smith and Sadiq Arshad. These 3 were in my group doing a film poster for their silver arts award. my team did very well in their silver arts award, by creating imaginative film posters and very specific and alot of information about there work and how they did their film poster on adobe photoshop. Here is a review from one of my teammates saying how he worked well with the group he was in I got this off Aaron Stringer: This is the review of my war poster and of the group that i worked in, I think that the post I did came together really good and the set up that I have do is really good and the front style that i used is really good and the group work well together but there could of been more commotion with in the group. The group at some lack of commotion there was not enough group evolvement i think they could of been more group evolvement within the poster making. What I did well in this project was creating my own film poster, by learning new skills on photoshop, learning new techniques and also getting the work doe in time.
Here is a picture of my film poster.

My Arts Award Challenge - test piece

Here is a test piece that I produced in PhotoShop where I have been learning on how to cut out an image accurately to use with other images and backgrounds.
